Laluna Art Project – The Enchanted Forest
featuring artist Tamika Gilbert
Birth of the Enchanted Forest
Art Installation – painted Terracotta
The idea for the installation came after seeing the cleared area that looked pretty much like a huge nest. I knew instantly that I wanted to do an installation in that area. There’s magic in new beginnings so I decided to highlight the start of something new. This piece is a mix of metallic and matte based spray paints and acrylic paints. The large centerpiece is terracotta.
Artist Bio
Making art was one of Tamika’s childhood dreams. She studied art briefly in Secondary School but thereafter didn’t do any work for about 12 years. It wasn’t until a picturesque day at the beach in 2016 sparked the passion she once had for art; she started to paint again. Tamika has taken a number of classes with Art School Greenz to develop her skills in different mediums.
Tamika works primarily with acrylic paints creating vibrant and colourful pieces. She enjoys showcasing women in her work, especially the black woman. The statements made in Gilbert’s work matches her brave bold personality. Tamika has made it a practice of using unconventional materials in her work; Grenada has an endless supply of materials. She also works in other mediums including spray paints and cement.
