About the Artist:
Born in November 1959, Morain is a self-taught painter and sculptor, whose art vividly reflects the rhythm and beauty of Grenadian life. He began painting seriously when he sold his first painting to a US marine, that landed on the north end of the island, for the American ‘Invasion’ of Grenada in 1983. Since then, he reflected his life of a fisherman on canvas, and continued from there. His works have become cherished for their honesty, humor, and vibrant storytelling. Using acrylics, oils, or enamels on wood, metal, or found materials.
His paintings depict fishermen, cocoa workers, island landscapes, and scenes of daily life. While his sculptures, are of whimsical birds, turtles, and human figures, made from scrap metal and old clothing, revealing his playful imagination and deep connection to community.
Morain’s art has been featured in numerous exhibitions through the Grenada Arts Council, including the Art Stimulus Project. He is admired by collectors around the world, who value his authentic voice and commitment to preserving Grenadian culture, through folk expression.
Despite humble circumstances, Doliver Morain’s work radiates warmth, resilience, and joy. Qualities that make him one of Grenada’s National Treasures, with a most distinctive artistic voice, and a true visual ambassador of the island.
