With over 12,000 graduates claiming St. George’s as their alma matter, Grenada has hosted a wide variety of students from around the world. Having a child, family member or loved one enrolled at St. George’s University offers the perfect excuse to come to the island. 1. Moving Day. Some parents opt to help with the transition from home country to Grenada. Imagine packing everything you need (and want) to live for a semester into two bags and a carry-on. With tight baggage restrictions, many students find themselves in that situation. Luckily, by choosing to help their child move, parents can carry a couple of extra bags for them.

2. White Coat Ceremony. An important Medical and Veterinary School tradition is the White Coat Ceremony. An opportunity for students to pronounce a commitment to their chosen profession, White Coat marks the true beginning of the student’s journey. Many loved ones choose to attend the ceremony to share in the accomplishment. For the Spring 2013 Semester, White Coat will be held January 21st for Medical Students and January 22nd for Veterinary Students.

3. Family Weekend. Held February 8-10, 2013, Family Weekend is arranged by the University to introduce family members to the island. With arranged meals, tours and events, Family Weekend is a great time to see the sights. As an added bonus, visiting Grenada in the peak of winter offers a nice break from the cold.

4. Easter Weekend. While Spring Break isn’t offered at the University, students are granted Good Friday and Holy Monday off, giving them a four day weekend. Many spouses or significant others that have opted to stay home for the semester choose to visit during this time to get some one-on-one time with the one they miss most. This year, Easter Weekend falls between March 29th and April 1st.

5. Post-Finals. Medical and Vet school keeps students busy. Every moment is packed full of studying, preparing, and classes. Once finals are finished, many students spend a week or two on the island before returning home; for some, it’s their first chance since school began to go to the beach or visit the rain forest. This is a great time to visit as the student will be able to relax and enjoy the island with you.
