To fully take in the experience, we recommend heading to the Laluna Sunset Bar and Lounge around 6 pm; facing the Caribbean Sea, the bar is the perfect place to take in a stunning Grenadian sunset before dinner.

Insider tip: if you really want a taste of the island, ask the bartender to pour you a shot of “under the counter”. This self-brewed liquor is basically the Grenadian version of moonshine and is sure to “put hair on your chest”.  Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Begin your meal with a unique glass of wine

Laluna has one of the most developed wine cellar on the island; stocked with delicious and hearty wines sourced primarily from Italy, our cellar has something for everyone. The carefully selected bottles match perfectly with our Chef’s Italian-Caribbean cuisine, with offerings including everything from sweet Rieslings to intense Brunellos. The cellar also includes a few Prosecco varieties and Roses, ideal for special celebrations or when enjoying a light seafood dish. Guests can pop a bottle before they eat, or pair a glass with a scrumptious meal at our beach-side restaurant. For those wishing to sip on a glass of wine while enjoying the view from their private patio, our room service will happily bring a bottle up to your suite.

Have an authentic Italian dinner

The beach-chic ambiance of our thatch roof Italian restaurant sets the stage for an intimate meal full of culinary delights. The relaxed, open-air layout of the restaurant provides diners a wonderfully pleasant spot to listen to the ocean waves and enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. To experience the bounty of the island, the Grenadian Pumpkin & Ginger Soup is an ideal appetizer, followed by the Sea Crab Linguine. For an even more romantic experience, the Laluna restaurant can even arrange a private dinner for two right on the beach!

Special events

While couples favor the restaurant for its private, romantic feel, the open dining area can also be arranged for larger groups or parties. Couples hosting their destination wedding at Laluna often choose to hold group meals at the resort’s restaurant, culminating in a reception following the ceremony. Following the class, take a step down onto the beach and take a moment to breathe and soak in the view with your special someone.

Following yoga, head back up to the private veranda of your suite to enjoy the morning breeze and have a light bite off our room service menu. Enjoy fresh fruit and a cappuccino before meandering hand-in-hand down the lush path taking you down to the Asian Spa.

With a variety of treatments available at the spa, there is something to suit every desire. For a special Valentine’s Day treat, we recommend a Balinese couples massage. After an hour of side-by-side massages executed by Laluna’s master Balinese masseuses, enjoy a cup of tea in the spa’s relaxation area before heading over to beach to soak up some sun in the side-by-side loungers.

Reward

One of the most romantic times in Grenada is sunset, and there is no better place to watch it than Laluna’s Sunset Bar. Ask our bartender to make you one of our specialty cocktails, and then watch the sun drop below the Caribbean Sea’s horizon from one of the lounge’s intimate sitting areas – our favorite is the  Balinese daybed facing the water. Be sure to watch for the “Green Flash”, a phenomena that occurs right as the top of the sun disappears.

Once the sun is down, head into the Laluna Restaurant, known for its fantastic Italian and Caribbean cuisine.  Valentine’s dinner is a special meal at Laluna. With a menu carefully planned and prepared by the resort’s Calabrian chef, the food will set the spark for an evening of amore. Spiny lobster season

To avoid over-fishing, spiny lobster has a specific season in Grenada and is not available year-round. We have an easy trick to remember when it will be available: You can purchase the lobster in months with the letter R (so, September – April). During this time period, fishermen will often sell lobster on docks and in harbors throughout the island. In fact, they often come up onto Laluna’s beach with their lobster bags for chef to personally select from.

Spiny lobster can grow to massive sizes; we’ve seen guests pick up lobsters up to 8 pounds. Of course, for a romantic dinner for two, a 3 to 4 pound lobster would more than suffice. With its hard, protective exterior, preparing the lobster can be a daunting task. Luckily, Laluna’s Chef is experienced with the spiny lobster, and will happily prepare your fresh-catch for you. A unique crustacean, the spiny lobster ranks as one of our “must-try” dishes when visiting Grenada.

A Laluna holiday tradition is our Christmas Day family-style beach barbecue lunch. We close down the restaurant, bring all of the tables and chairs down to the beach, and enjoy an amazing barbecue feast prepared by our Chef. Including rib eye, pork porchetta, lamb, salad, pasta, dessert, and more, the lunch is a chance for guests and staff to come together and celebrate the season.

Following the meal, guests often choose to catnap on the large Balinese daybeds overlooking the ocean, lounge in a hammock or head up to their private veranda for a quick siesta in Grenada’s warm sunshine. After a good rest, Laluna offers a traditional Christmas dinner served in the restaurant, complete with roast ham, parmigiana of zucchini, panettone and more.

There are many different recipes for sorrel drinks. Starting with the basic ingredients of dried sorrel leaves, water and sugar, the drink is often spiced up with locally grown spices including ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Some make it an adult beverage by adding rum to their mix.

Here we share with you our favorite recipe. Be sure to try some when you visit Grenada!

Sorrel Drink

• 2.5 litres water
• 1 lb dried sorrel leaves, picked over to remove any other flowers
• 3 cinnamon sticks/large pieces of cinnamon bark
• Handful of whole cloves
• Peel of one orange
• 2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
• Sugar to taste (we start with a quarter cup)
