Start the day off right with a yoga session in our beachfront yoga pavilion. Moms are always so busy thinking about everyone else; what better way to clear her head than with an hour spent focusing on individual poses and breath?

Breakfast

Follow up the yoga session with a light breakfast in the Laluna restaurant. Some fresh, locally grown fruit or a pastry paired with a delicious cappuccino or mimosa will keep Mom going until lunchtime.

Spa

Of course, you can’t have a day of pampering without spa treatments. Normally we recommend a Balinese couples massage to our guests, but on this special day, the four-handed Indonesian massage is the way to go. Our masseuses will focus all of their attention on Mom, ensuring that she finds total relaxation. While Mom sips on some soothing local ginger and honey tea, treat her to a well-deserved mani-pedi to cap off the spa experience.

Into the Sea

While Mom is being pampered in the spa, take some time to familiarize yourself with a hobie cat. These small sailing vessels are perfect for two, and when she’s finished being pampered, make her feel like the star of the seas with a quick jaunt around the Laluna bay.

Lunch & Relaxation

Back on land, head back up to your suite for an intimate lunch. Room service will deliver your meal to be enjoyed on your private veranda; when finished, enjoy a refreshing dip in your suite’s plunge pool, or enjoy a lazy afternoon lounging on the Balinese day bed.

The sunsets of Grenada are one of a kind, and Laluna’s Sunset Lounge is the perfect place to view it from. Head down for a delicious tropical drink before dinner and take in the majestic beauty. If you show up a little early, the thatched-roof lounge is also an excellent location to sit back with  a cocktail and enjoy a game of backgammon or Scrabble.

Insider tip: if you really want a taste of the island, ask the bartender to pour you a shot of “under the counter”. This self-brewed liquor is basically the Grenadian version of moonshine and is sure to “put hair on your chest”.  Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Known world-wide as an international leader of world-class cruising yachts, Oyster Marine yachts have been recognized for their quality, comfort, and performance since 1973. Throughout the years Oyster’s owner-exclusive regattas and events have become increasingly popular. This year, Grenada played host to an Oyster event: The Oyster Regata Grenada 2013.

After the warm welcome laid out by Port Louis Marina – and everyone in Grenada – for the first Oyster regatta held on the island in 2011, Oyster decided to return to the island again. Hosted once more by Port Louis Marina, the Oyster fleet arrived on April 8th, 2013 to begin the event. The week’s activities included racing around the coast of the island, an overnight stop at Le Phare Bleu, and dinners and parties at some of the islands most exclusive venues, with a prize giving party and dinner at Port Louis on the final evening. Laluna was excited to host one of the evening events of the regatta, where guests were treated to Italian cuisine by Laluna’s Southern Italian chef Daniele, with cocktails starting at the Sunset Bar and dining outdoors under the stars. The evening was rounded off by dancing the night away with live music from the Italian musician, locally known as Barracuda.

Following yoga, head back up to the private veranda of your suite to enjoy the morning breeze and have a light bite off our room service menu. Enjoy fresh fruit and a cappuccino before meandering hand-in-hand down the lush path taking you down to the Asian Spa.

With a variety of treatments available at the spa, there is something to suit every desire. For a special Valentine’s Day treat, we recommend a Balinese couples massage. After an hour of side-by-side massages executed by Laluna’s master Balinese masseuses, enjoy a cup of tea in the spa’s relaxation area before heading over to beach to soak up some sun in the side-by-side loungers.

Reward

One of the most romantic times in Grenada is sunset, and there is no better place to watch it than Laluna’s Sunset Bar. Ask our bartender to make you one of our specialty cocktails, and then watch the sun drop below the Caribbean Sea’s horizon from one of the lounge’s intimate sitting areas – our favorite is the  Balinese daybed facing the water. Be sure to watch for the “Green Flash”, a phenomena that occurs right as the top of the sun disappears.

Once the sun is down, head into the Laluna Restaurant, known for its fantastic Italian and Caribbean cuisine.  Valentine’s dinner is a special meal at Laluna. With a menu carefully planned and prepared by the resort’s Calabrian chef, the food will set the spark for an evening of amore. In fact, the resort recently added stand up paddleboarding to their roster of enjoyable water sports. An exciting way to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean Sea surrounding the island of Grenada, stand up paddleboarding combines a fantastic full body workout with fun and adventure.

Paddleboarding allows adventurers to experience all that the Sea has to offer: From the beautiful views of the horizon to the flourishing sea life below the water’s surface, paddleboarders can enjoy it all from atop their board. With no waves required, paddleboarding can be done around the island regardless of surf conditions. All skill levels are welcome to try paddleboarding at Laluna. Laluna’s secluded bay makes it ideal for the sport; with limited obstacles and boat traffic, new paddleboarders can master the sport without much maneuvering and dodging required.

Tips for beginners

• When first starting out, many find it easier to forgo standing at first and learn while kneeling on the board.
• To get into a kneeling position, grab the rails of the board and pop yourself up into a kneeling position, just behind the center of the board. Look for the balance point of the board; you’ll have found it when the nose stays in the water and the tail doesn’t sink. You can stabilize the board by keeping your hands on either side of it.
• After getting the hang of of things, use the rails on the paddleboard to help pop you up on the board.
• When you’re ready to stand up, do it one foot at a time, placing your feet where your knees were.

• Once you’ve made it up, keep your feet hip-width apart and parallel, centered between the boards rails.
• Keeping your toes pointed forward, your knees bent and your back straight, and balance with your hips. Keep your head and shoulders upright and keep your gaze level at the horizon, shifting your weight by moving your hips.
• To paddle: Keep the elbow of the paddle away from you. With your arms straight, twist from your torso as you paddle. When you’re starting out, keep your strokes fairly short and close alongside the board.
• To travel in a straight line, paddle a few strokes on one side, then switch to the other.

Things to avoid

• Avoid hunching. Keep your back straight and shoulders level.
• Don’t look at your feet. Keep your eye on the horizon.
• Avoid putting both hands on the paddle shaft. Keep your top hand at the top of the paddle, on the grip.
• Don’t lock your knees, it’s easier to balance with bent knees.

You don’t need to pack much to enjoy paddleboarding at Laluna. Simply bring your swimsuit, sunglasses, and the sunscreen, and  the resort will take care of the rest.

Guests to Grenada the week of January 20th will be in for a special rejuvenation treat: Laluna Resort will be holding a three day Astanga yoga workshop from Friday, January 25th – Sunday, January 27th. The prefect way to end a day, sessions begin in the early evening. Each session is an hour and a half long, with Friday and Saturday’s sessions beginning at 5:30 pm and Sunday’s session beginning at 5:00 pm. The cost of the entire weekend is $75US, with all proceeds benefiting the Grenada Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

The workshop will be lead by Nick Loening, director of the ecoYoga Centre in Scotland. Nick has been teaching and practicing yoga for over thirty years, introducing the Astanga system to Scotland  in 1998 when he founded the Yoga Centre in Edinburgh. In 2005, he opened the ecoYoga Centre, teaching fun and lighthearted classes with an emphasis on safe practice for beginners.

Designed as an introduction to the Astanga Vinyasa yoga system, the three yoga classes are ideal both for yoga beginners and experienced in other forms of yoga. Combining practice with theory, the classes will be interspersed with explanations of the Sanskrit names of postures and their health benefits.

The first session acts as an introduction to the core principals of Ashtanga yoga, where participants will learn how to connect the breath to the flowing movements of the Vinyasa. Basic postures will be introduced, adding together to create a flowing yoga form; time will be allowed for explanation, theory, and questions. The class will focus on the opening sequence of the “primary series” and will end with the closing sequence to cool and relax the body.

The second session will begin by practicing the yoga poses learned in the first session, then build upon them with standing postures with precise instructions to enable a safe and healthy yoga practice. The session will end with inverted (upside down) postures which will leave participants feeling energized and relaxed.

The weekend workshop will end with the third session, which recaps the first two sessions and leads into the basics of sitting yoga poses. The most dynamic class of the weekend, the session will build heat in the body and bring together the three fundamentals of the Vinyasa system of Breathing, Bhanda, and Dristi.

A recent visitor to Laluna, Danielle, A.K.A. “Dallas Foodie” was named the winner of Laluna Resort’s 2012 “My Perfect Day at Laluna” Photo Contest. A well-known Dallas-based food social media journalist, Dallas Foodie perfectly captured the beautiful sunset from Laluna’s secluded beach, nabbing her the first-place prize of a one-night stay at the resort.
